XIII. KölnAlumni symposium April 22th 2016

"Europe: Limits and commonalities. Status and prospect of the European Union"

Europe: Limits and commonalities. Status and prospect of the European Union
Europa: Von Grenzen und Gemeinsamkeiten

The idea of the European Union in its concrete realization is currently confronted by many problems and challenges. The refugee crisis, instability of the Euro, discussions about leaving the EU – what does that mean to the European Union? The danger of failing or a radical reorganisation seems to be possible.

All this leads to the questions that will be discussed within the XIII. KölnAlumni symposium. The impacts of the crisis will be examined, and the following questions will be discussed: How bleak is the future?  Is the cohesion of the union in danger? Or is the crises one of many and the EU will emerge strengthened?

The following experts will contribute their views of contemporary history, legal history, politics and economics on the theme of the European crisis. The role of individual nations, the perspective of the youth, the responsibility of Germany and possible future plans will also be discussed:

Professor for "European Politics" at the Department of Politics, University of Sheffield, Great Britain
