University of Cologne, Main Building, Albertus-Magnus-Platz, 50931 Cologne (https://lageplan.uni-koeln.de/#!100)

The #GEBF2019 is a comprehensive program with more than 550 submissions from eight countries, top-class keynotes and symposia. Professor Andreas Schleicher, Education Director of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), will speak on "Pupils for their future, not our past" (keynote on Monday), and Professor Dr. Catherine Snow of Harvard University will give a lecture on "How discussion contributes to literacy development" (keynote on Tuesday).

Professor Dr Bettina Rockenbach, Vice-Rector of the University of Cologne for Research and Innovation, says: "It is well known that education faces major, ever-changing challenges. This concerns lifelong learning, the transfer of digital knowledge, education and migration, and the promotion of democracy and participation. Findings from empirical educational research will continue to be indispensable for education policy debates and policy measures in the future. This conference makes a valuable contribution to this."

The GEBF Conference 2019 will be jointly hosted by representatives of the Institute for German Language and Literature II, the Institute for Sociology and Social Psychology (ISS), the Interdisciplinary Centre for Empirical Teacher Research and the Mercator Institute for Language Promotion and German as a Second Language.
