Concerning the discussion about free public transport for better air quality in inner cities, Prof. Dr. Axel Ockenfels warns against this assumption in the German newspaper F.A.Z.

In Ockenfels' opinion the public transport is not that expensive, but the problem are the car drivers, who do not take into account air pollution and creating traffic jam at a certain place and at a specific date. Drivers do not pay fair costs for using roads. "That is not only inefficient, but also unfair.", says Ockenfels.
