CERES Veranstaltung 2016: „Big Data for the Benefit of Patients: Precision Medicine and the Challenges of Different Kinds of Data”

The fifth ceres Lecture is taking place at the University of Cologne on May 23rd 2016. Dr. Friedrich von Bohlen und Halbach, managing partner and co-founder of dievini Hopp BioTech Holding GmbH & Co. KG, will present insights into the role of Big Data in Medicine in his talk „Big Data for the Benefit of Patients: Precision Medicine and the Challenges of Different Kinds of Data.” The ceres lecture is free and open to everyone interested.


In his ceres Lecture, von Bohlen und Halbach will discuss potential benefits and challenges of Big Data for modern medicine. The constantly growing amount of health-related data is changing health care practice fundamentally. While medicine is expected to be personalized and to allow for increasingly precise predictions as well as individualized therapies, it is not settled whether Precision Medicine will automatically lead to better patient care. Which risks are associated with data-driven care, and how can we ensure its beneficial use? Discuss with a life-science and data expert and share your own insights and thoughts!


About the Lecturer:
Dr. von Bohlen holds a PhD in neurobiology from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich.
He has more than 10 years of entrepreneurial experience in the Life Sciences. As former CEO of Lion Bioscience AG he led Lion's IPO in 2000 at 'Neuer Markt', Frankfurt and at Nasdaq, New York. In addition to that, he has been awarded numerous prizes, including the German Entrepreneur of the Year prize in 1999 by Ernst & Young, SAP and Manager Magazin. Today, he is chairman of various biotech companies as well as member of the evaluation board of Wyss Translational Center Zurich.
