Dean Thonemann welcomes new professor

On August 1st, 2019 Prof. Dr. Pia Pinger was appointed to the WiSo Faculty of the University of Cologne and takes up her professorship in the economic research focus "Economics: Design & Behavior". Her work also supports the clusters of excellence C-SEB and ECONTribute.

She completed her own education in Paris, Chicago and Mannheim. For her dissertation, she received the "The Future of Labor" prize, awarded by the ZEW/Volksbank Weinheim Foundation, and in 2015 the prize for the best dissertation in the field of educational economics, awarded by the Bildungsökonomischer Ausschuss and the Verein für Socialpolitik.

Already during her studies and as an assistant professor at the University of Bonn she has gained a lot of teaching experience having taught at various seminars, workshops and summer schools. In 2015 she received an "Excellence in teaching award" from the University of Bonn.

Prof. Dr. Pia Pinger works on questions of equality of opportunity, human capital accumulation, and on the integration of psychological concepts into empirical models of economic decision-making. Her research fields are the economics of education, health economics, and applied econometrics. She has published numerous articles in journals such as Nature Communications, the Economic Journal, or the Journal of Political Economy. Further papers are currently being prepared.

The Dean of the Faculty of Management, Economic and Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Ulrich W. Thonemann, personally welcomed Ms. Pinger and is delighted to have won her as an excellent addition to the outstanding professorship of the WiSo Faculty.
