Axel Ockenfels on innovative transport markets

Prof. Dr. Axel Ockenfels

In a guest article in the Süddeutsche Zeitung and in other publications, Prof. Dr. Axel Ockenfels made suggestions as to what innovative transport markets of the future might look like. He suggests that drivers should pay for air pollution. And he warns against the assumption that the problem of inner-city air pollution can be solved by free public transport:

"Making local transport free in order to displace private transport is something like subsidising Coca-Cola in order to reduce alcohol consumption," he told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
