CEMS Business Project: Gillette, Cologne, Germany in collaboration with the WiSo-Faculty
The way we shop is constantly changing, with new trends appearing at an increasingly fast pace. Expanding usage of P&G products is crucial to business success and a key to gaining new Gillette shoppers in the future will require keeping ahead of the trends. It’s difficult, however, to predict what these trends might be and how the environment, retailers and product usage will change. This was the starting point for the CEMS Business Project: let’s jump 14 years ahead, analyze available data on shoppers, consumers, but also societal trends to develop marketing & sales strategies for Gillette in 2030.
In contrast to typical in-class case studies, CEMS Business Projects give students the possibility to have a real impact. “Our business project was very practical and since we were in close contact with P&G it felt like a real consulting project. To hear that they are planning on implementing one of our main ideas is also truly rewarding and means that they take our recommendations seriously,” says Louise Berndtson, a CEMS Student working on the project. “Working with students allows us to get new insights by thinking out of the box. We are so deeply familiar with our business, that we sometimes lack the outside view on some topics. Diversity is a key success driver for P&G and thus, working in international teams delivers new perspectives and innovative solutions to a given challenge that we highly appreciate,” says Mahsan Salamat, an Assistant Brand Manager at P&G who was leading the project from the company side.
Students were able to interact with P&G employees in Marketing, Finance, as well as Market Strategy & Planning and the Gillette brand team, giving them a great perspective of how the teams operate at P&G.
