New online portal connects sociological community

Sociological portal SocioHub

The University and City Library (USB) and the GESIS Leibniz Institute of Social Sciences have developed the  portal SocioHub for sociological researchers. Registered users can exchange information directly , search for literature and from 2019 on,  also provide and archive their own publications. The background is the idea to create a central entry page for the sociological community and to enable a better literature supply.

SocioHub offers comprehensive research opportunities in the field of sociology. In addition, the platform not only allows individuals to create a profile, but also gives a presence to research teams and, for example, the sections of the German Sociological Association (DGS). Digital tools such as calendars, reading lists, news feeds, forum or a survey function facilitate joint work on research topics. In addition, a service is planned for 2019 to make it easier for users to republish their work as an open access document.

The project was funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) for a Fachinformationsdienst (FID) sociology. The FID Sociology has been based at the USB since 2016 and also builds on the long-standing experience of USB as the location of the former special collection area social sciences. The portal is available at and will initially be launched as a beta version, which will be continuously developed.
