"Gesund wie nie? Facetten der Gesundheit in der modernen Gesellschaft"

ceres Lecture Series fall semester 2018/19

Info Ringvorlesung Ceres

Health and well-being  have become increasingly essential in today’s society. Issues of health gradually permeate every aspect of our daily lives. Fitness and lifestyle apps as well as wearables are rapidly gaining popularity, and health-related content in press, social media and on the internet continues to grow. Almost everywhere, health-related information is recorded, evaluated, offered, and shared. But exactly how healthy can we be and how healthy do we want to be?

Information-based technologies promise previously unknown possibilities for individualized prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of illnesses. Increasing awareness of social diversity enables new perspectives towards a more target-oriented medical care. At the same time, the individual is increasingly expected to make optimal use of this available information.

How should the personal qualifications and resources needed for this purpose be communicated and made available? How can individual and social interests find equal consideration? How should a social and political framework ensuring a fair and useful interaction with these new possibilities look like?

On nine different dates during the fall semester of 2018/19, experts from the fields of health and social sciences, economics, ethics, as well as medical law will examine these questions, highlight different facets of physical and psychological health and present their perspectives on how to handle these developments.

Dates: every Tuesday beginning from October 23rd, 2018
Time: 6 to 7:30 PM
Location: Main building of the University of Cologne, Aula 2, Albertus-Magnus-Platz 2, 50923 Köln
