15th Cologne Economic Policy Dialogue

Broadband for everyone - but who pays?

[This content is not available in "Englisch" yet] Andreas Pinkwart und Achim Wambach

On Monday, June 18, 2018, the Institute for Economic Policy at the University of Cologne (iwp) and the Otto Wolff Foundation once again invite to a dialogue on economic policy. The expansion of the broadband network is high on the political agenda. However, a nationwide broadband expansion is expensive and poses various regulatory challenges.

The 15th Cologne Economic Policy Dialogue is therefore devoted to the following questions: What are the priority objectives of broadband deployment? Who should expand the network and to what extent? What incentives are needed? Who should bear the costs of the expansion? What regulation is necessary to ensure sufficient intensity of competition at the various market levels? What are the rights and obligations of network operators?

The speakers are Prof. Dr. Andreas Pinkwart, who is the Minister for Economic Affairs, Innovation, Digitisation and Energy of North Rhine-Westphalia and Prof. Dr. Achim Wambach, President of the Centre for European Economic Research and Chairman of the Monopolies Commission. The event will be moderated by Prof. Dr. Felix Höffler, Director of the Institute for Economic Policy at the University of Cologne.
