Bachelor programmes

Bachelor programmes in Business Administration, Economics, Economics with Social Sciences, Social Sciences, Health Economics and Information Systems

If you wish to apply for advanced entry as a lateral entrant or a location changer on one of the programmes mentioned above, you must send in a letter of confirmation stating whether a lateral entry or a change of location does apply for you, within your application to the registrar’s office/international office for a place on the programme. If you are classified as a lateral entrant a letter of confirmation that you have been assigned to a later term of the programme is needed additionally.

Change of location (letter of confirmation of location change): Applicants who are registered in another university in this particular programme at the time of application or have been registered before the time of application.
Students from universities of applied sciences please take into account the information provided by the Student Secretariat.

Lateral entry (letter of confirmation of lateral entry and in addition letter of confirmation that you have been assigned to a later term of the programme):
Applicants who are not registered in another university in this particular programme up the time of application or have not been registered before the time of application but can confirm until a certain deadline, chosen by the university of cologne, that their examinations taken elsewhere can be accredited in a sufficient extend.

Change of location/Lateral entry Bachelor programmes

If you wish to apply for advanced entry as a lateral entrant or a location changer on one of the programmes mentioned above, you must send in a letter of confirmation stating whether you are a lateral entrant or a location changer within your application to the registrar’s office/international office for a place on the programme.

How can I apply for a letter of confirmation of location change/lateral entry and what documents do I have to submit?
To apply for a letter of confirmation of lateral entry/location change, you need to complete this application form and submit it to the Examination Office (please print it on two separate sheets, no duplex printing).  Applications cannot be accepted in any other form. A current certificate of enrolment must be enclosed with the application. No other documents can be accepted. The degree to be achieved must also be stated on the certificate of enrolment (e.g. Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts...). If this does not appear on the certificate of enrolment, an additional certificate stating the degree has to be handed in.
Incomplete applications will not be processed without further communication!

When does this application have to be submitted to the Examination Office?
The processing of your application might take up to four weeks. The Examination Office must therefore receive applications for assignment to a later term of the programme by virtue of examinations taken elsewhere, in their entirety (i.e. including the credit transfer request and transcript of records), no later than four weeks before the deadline for advanced entry applications. Applications submitted late cannot be guaranteed to be processed by the application deadlines set by the registrar’s office.  
Caution:
Please note that, in the case of a lateral entry you have to send in a letter of confirmation of lateral entry and additionally a letter of confirmation that you have been assigned to a later term of the programme within your application to the registrar’s office/International Office for a place on the programme. The processing of this assignment does usually take more than four weeks! Please follow the notifications below. Please feel free to apply for both letters of confirmation simultaneously.

What do I get from the Examination Office?
You will receive the second page back, stating the confirmation of lateral entry or change of location. You will need to submit this to the registrar’s office/International Office when applying for advanced entry.

What else do I need to know?
As a lateral entrant your application for a place on the programme must include a letter of confirmation that you have been assigned to a later term of the programme. Please consider the corresponding deadlines. Please feel free to apply for both letters of confirmation simultaneously.

Advanced entry – Assignment to a later term of the Bachelor programmes

To apply for a letter of confirmation of assignment to a later term of the programme, you need to complete this application form and submit it to the Examination Office. Applications cannot be accepted in any other form. A transcript of all examinations passed and failed on the prior programme, bearing the seal or stamp of the relevant authority, must be enclosed with the application (not applicable in the case of students from the WiSo Faculty at the University of Cologne). No other documents can be accepted. If you did not apply for a letter of confirmation of lateral entry/location change before, you have to submit the corresponding documents within applying for a letter of confirmation of assignment to a later term of the programme.


If you wish to apply to be assigned to a later term of the programme, by virtue of examinations taken outside Cologne University’s WiSo Faculty, you need to enclose a complete, signed credit transfer request generated from the database of the Wiso Credit Transfer Centre (“Wiso-Anrechnungszentrum”) with the application you submit to the Examination Office to be admitted to a later term of the programme. Students from other faculties at the University of Cologne should use the “abschließenden Antrag erstellen” function to do this. They do not need to register in the database first. Students from other higher education institutions should use the “Fachsemestereinstufung” function. To register in the database, they should enter the following code: 9726732. When does this application have to be submitted to the Examination Office?

The Examination Office must receive applications for assignment to a later term of the programme by virtue of examinations taken at the WiSo Faculty at the University of Cologne, in their entirety, no later than four weeks before the deadline for advanced entry applications. Applications submitted late cannot be guaranteed to be processed by the application deadlines set by the registrar’s office/International Office

What do I get from the Examination Office?
Once the equivalence of the examinations has been verified, you will receive a letter of notification stating that the terms you have already studied have been recognised. You will need to submit this letter of notification to the registrar’s office/International Office when you apply for advanced entry. However, you do not receive a letter of confirmation showing that specific examinations have been credited.

What else do I need to know?
If you are planning to transfer to a programme at our Faculty, please be aware that there may be limits on the number of examination credits that can be transferred.
When a student enrols, it is compulsory that all relevant examinations they took on the programme that qualified them for advanced entry are credited in accordance with the relevant examination regulations as part of the admission procedure.

The submission of a letter of confirmation of assignment to a later term of the programme is only possible for lateral entries. In the case of location change this is generally not possible.

Achievements in the field of 'Studium Integrale' cannot be taken into account for the assignment to a later term of the programme.

If you wish to apply for advanced entry as a lateral entrant on one of the bachelor programmes with an education component, you must submit a letter of confirmation that you have been assigned to a later term of the programme to the Centre for Teacher Education (“Zentrum für LehrerInnenbildung (ZfL)”).
