Health Economics

Health Economics is an interdisciplinary science in-between economics and medicine. As the only such degree programme in Germany, the BSc in Health Economics at Cologne University offers courses both at the Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences (WiSo Faculty) and at the Faculty of Medicine.

The point of departure for all contemplation is the assumption that the factors of production in the health care sector (e.g. workforce, capital or material) are not available on an unlimited scale.

The aim of Health Economics is to employ all these resources effectively and efficiently, and hence achieve their optimum utilization. Basic medical knowledge must thereby be acquired to comprehend health-economic and medical aspects.

The Bachelor’s degree course in Health Economics prepares students for the analysis of highly complex technical problems and for solving these in the best possible way.
