Social Sciences
The Bachelor’s degree programme in Social Sciences at the Cologne Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences (WiSo Faculty) is divided into the major subjects of Political Science, Sociology, Empirical Social Research, and Integrative Social Science.
Political Science investigates the ordering and regulation of social coexistence from theoretical and empirical perspectives. These processes involve general-binding decisions taken in (sub-) national, European and international contexts (as well as their interaction). Sociological subject areas are devoted to societal interrelations within and between communities, societies and organizations.
Perspectives
The combination of scientific grounding and practical orientation as well as the possibility of setting individual study priorities open up a wide array of career prospects in Germany and abroad. Graduates with a political science profile will above all gain employment in political institutions (Foreign Office, European Union) and organizations (parties, foundations), in the media and in associations at national, European and international level, as well as in the education sector. On the other hand, graduates with a more pronounced sociological profile will encounter professional opportunities in consultancy and concept services in the field of market and social research, in the media and in outreach work for companies and associations.

Interdisciplinarity
Alongside the social sciences, your studies in Cologne can additionally target specific subjects of Business Administration, Economics, Social Psychology and other interdisciplinary areas.

You can do justice to your personal interests and career goals through the extensive offer of elective subjects and specialization options. At the WiSo Faculty, you have a choice of over 30 profile groups in the various elective areas.

The course programme is divided into five subjects and the bachelor thesis. The standard period of study is six semesters comprising 180 ECTS credit points. An exceptional feature of studies at our Faculty is its highly diversified subject offer, furnishing an extensive range of electives and additional profiling options within the economic and social sciences. This allows you to structure your courses in keeping with your personal interests and (vocational) ambitions. On top of that, the WiSo Faculty’s excellent national and international academic reputation is reflected in its teaching contents.
